Kan Ya Makan
كان يا مكان
-
A bilingual multimedia project aiming to map queer experiences, with a main focus in Lebanon and the region.
The interactive online map archives visual and written contributions pinned in locations specified by volunteering folks. Along with participants of Kan Ya Makan's Creative Writing Workshop, the platform welcomes anyone who would like to share their own narratives around bodies, public space, queerness, gender, sexuality, intimacy, resistance, and pleasure.

Commissioned by Qorras.

Pre-launch workshop announcement.
Prior to introducing the interactive platform, visual teasers are launched along with the first creative writing workshop. Volunteering pieces will be used as the first entries pinned on the Kan Ya Makan map.
And of course, corporate handling and consent forms.
A walkthrough the custom Arabic hand-lettered logo (Right-to-Left).
Inspired by early Kufic calligraphic script and the thin, long diacritics from the Thuluth script, I begin abstracting each step to finally reach a condensed __ on its slanted baseline.
First look at social media teasers.
The online platform is a responsive graphic user interface, adapting itself to various screen sizes.
Interactive social media presence post-launch of the map gives the ability for users to ask questions regarding submissions as well as get inspired by given prompts to create their own posts.
Existing submissions will be teased as excerpts.
Live website may not reflect the intended UX/UI laid out above. Development is still under review.
